Apple Early Victoria
A quintessential English culinary apple dating back to 1899, Malus domestica 'Early Victoria' (also known as 'Emneth Early') is one of the best early-season cooking apples available. The tree is compact and naturally productive, making it an excellent choice for smaller gardens or allotments. It is a reliable, heavy cropper and a spur-bearer, often producing fruit so prolifically that thinning is recommended to maintain fruit size. Known for its exceptional hardiness and frost resistance, it thrives even in the cooler, northern parts of the UK.
The fruit is medium-sized with pale green skin that turns a soft yellowish-green as it matures. The flesh is white, crisp, and remarkably juicy, breaking down into a light, fluffy, and translucent purée when cooked. It possesses a sharp, refreshing flavor that requires very little added sugar. Apple Early Victoria holds the prestigious RHS Award of Garden Merit.
