Acanthus spinosus

Spiny Bear’s Breeches

Acanthus spinosus is a bold and dramatic perennial with deeply cut, glossy, dark green foliage and striking flower spikes. The foliage forms a dense clump of spiny, thistle-like leaves, which give the plant a strong architectural presence. In summer, tall, upright spikes of hooded, tubular flowers in shades of soft purple and white rise above the foliage, adding height and elegance to borders.

Ideal for sunny or lightly shaded areas, it’s drought tolerant once established and makes a long-lasting impact in the garden year after year.
