Mixed Hedge for Damp

Product Description

Mixed Hedge for Damp

Not every garden is blessed with good free draining soil, if your soil is heavy and prone to damp, the varieties in this informal mixed hedge will grow in all but the most waterlogged soils. A specialised  mix of deciduous plants that can be clipped into a neat hedge if desired or left to grow.

This mix is made up in roughly equal quantities of our selection of 3 of the following varieties.

Carpinus betulus - Hornbeam
Cornus alba  & Cornus sericea Flaviramea

Physocarpus opulifolius - NineBark

Supplied at an average height of 2-3ft, yellow Dogwood @1-2ft

For best results, we recommend planting  the varieties in groups that repeat themselves down through the hedge, we recommend this hedge to be planted at 3 plants per mtr.

This hedge will take inland exposure and will grow in any reasonable soil including damp.

Trim the plants after planting to encourage good bushy growth. Ongoing a decent cut in the Spring followed by a tidy up in the Autumn will take care of this hedge.

Hint: The dogwoods colour better on new growth, so giving them a good cut in the Spring will ensure vibrant Winter stem colour.

Keeping any young hedge weed and grass free is vital to the overall vigour and health of the hedge. Using weed membrane keeps back weeds and insulates the roots and will greatly increase growth rates, as well as cutting down on your weeding work. Mulching is another great option for insulating the roots and holding back weeds, bark mulch is the most common used medium.

Suitable varieties in this hedge can change depending on availability.

These hedges are hand picked and take a while to gather, if coming to the nursery, pre ordering is advised, otherwise please allow at least 1 hour for it to be gathered.
