Discovered as a chance seedling in Norfolk in the early 19th century, Apple Golden Noble remains one of the best culinary apples, cooking down to a very well-flavoured purée, ideal for apple-sauce. The vitamin C content is unusually high. The fruit is large, round and even, and yellowish-green, ripening to gold, the skin becoming greasy over time. The flesh is creamy-white, soft, and juicy, with an exceptionally good flavour and good balance of sweetness and acidity. The tree is small, easy to grow, and comes early into bearing. Partial tip-bearer. Holds the RHS Award of Garden Merit.
