Rosa rugosa typica

Rose rugosa typica

A very hardy, disease-resistant, repeating rose, Rosa rugosa typica is a deciduous, large shrub rose with a dense, bushy, upright habit. The foliage is mid-green and deeply veined and the stems are very prickly, rather than thorny. The flowers are large, single and a deep carmine, with golden stamens; they are strongly fragrant with the typical rugosa scent – rather like talcum powder. The flowers are followed by round red hips in autumn, if you have not dead-headed too assiduously. Rugosa rose typica is tolerant of poor soils and some shade and makes a good stock-proof hedge.
