A mid-season Gloucestershire perry pear dating from the late 18th century, Pyrus communis Winnal’s Longdon is a spur-bearing tree of moderate vigour and spreading habit, a heavy cropper, but with a biennial tendency and often slow to come into bearing. The pretty fruits are greenish-yellow flushed red and with some russeting, producing a good quality vintage perry, low in tannin with medium to high acidity. Perry pears do not keep well, so juice after picking. Perry pear Winnal’s Longdon needs a compatible pollination partner.
