A very old perry variety from Gloucestershire, Pyrus communis Gin is used for high quality, mild-bittersharp perry with a flowery aroma and medium acid and tannin levels. Forming a slightly vigorous, spreading, spur-bearing tree, it’s a good cropper, though as it has a biennial tendency, it’s advisable to thin pears early. Perry pears should be used soon after picking, as they do not keep well. Perry pear Gin has good resistance to scab and canker.
