Macleaya microcarpa (syn. cordata)

Plume Poppy

A handsome specimen for the larger border. Macleaya microcarpa (syn. cordata)  is a striking architectural plant with large powdery grey-green scalloped leaves topped in late Summer by cream coloured plumes. Plume Poppy prefers well drained moist soil in part shade, but is tolerant of most soil types. Partners well with Nicotiana sylvestris. A very large spreading tropical looking perennial, plant it in its own spot to form an impressive clump or mix near the back of the border. An interesting addition to the medicinal garden. This plant contains natural insecticide in the sap, toxic if ingested. Resistant to grazing deer and rabbits. Holds the RHS Award of Garden Merit.
