'In the Green' Bulbs – Future Forests
'In the Green' Bulbs

'In the Green' Bulbs

Some bulbs, tubers, and rhizomes are better planted ‘in the green.' This means they are still in active growth, rather than dry bulbs, and are planted in spring rather than autumn. These include winter aconites (which are particularly hard to establish from tubers), snowdrops, bluebells, and lily-of-the valley.

You can learn more about planting bulbs 'in the green' in our advice section.

€4 shipping on bulbs-only orders

You don't have to do a thing. If you only have bulbs in your cart, you will be automatically offered a €4 bulbs-only shipping option at checkout.

Planting

The only time of year for planting 'in the green' bulbs is February to March. Plant them as soon as you receive them, preparing the soil beforehand if necessary, so they can sprint away happily.

It can be grown under the shade of deciduous trees, and in light grass. The basal leaves are also a rich green. Despite the name, it is related to buttercups, not aconites, and does not share the latter’s deadly toxicity.
