Apple Keegan’s Crab

Apple Keegan’s Crab

Not actually a crab-apple, Apple Keegan’s Crab is an Irish heritage variety of dessert apple from Co. Armagh, dating from the late 19th century. The fruit is medium to large, unevenly shaped, green to yellowish-green, speckled, and netted with russet. The flesh is sweet, very crisp and juicy. The tree is a heavy cropper. Tip-bearer, so is not suitable for trained forms; occasional renewal pruning required. Mid- to late season flowering, so good for colder areas. Very good keeper. Disease-resistant.

This Irish Heritage Apple variety was originally saved and propagated by Irish Seed Savers in Scarriff, County Clare.
