Good, slightly sharp flavour and very firm skin – good for packed lunches and liked by children. The tree is shapely, even with limited pruning, and fairly vigorous. Very reliable, heavy cropper. Spur-bearer; produces spurs readily, even without pruning. The blossom is particularly attractive and long-lasting, making it an excellent pollinator, and is tolerant of late frosts, so good for colder areas. Keeps only for a week or so; use any you can’t eat for juicing or cooking. Resistant to most diseases, particularly canker, and produces well even in poor weather. Does best on rich soil. A very easy and reliable apple, ideal for inexperienced growers, and a most attractive specimen tree for gardens.

Site: Average exposure
Soil: Any reasonably well-drained soil; rich clay preferred
Position: Full sun
Pick: Early September
Keep: only for a couple of weeks
Hardiness: Hardy
Pollination: Group 3 (pollinates with Groups 2, 3 and 4)
Uses: Eating apple; also for juice and cooking

Learn more about fruit tree rootstocks

During the bareroot season, our apples are pre pruned before being dispatched by mail order.

["Apple Trees
"option1":"Bareroot","option2":"M27","option3":"1yr
Apple Katy - A very easy and reliable apple, ideal for inexperienced growers, and a most attractive specimen tree for gardens.

Site: Average exposure
Soil: Any reasonably well-drained soil; rich clay preferred
Position: Full sun
Pick: Early September
Keep: only for a couple of weeks
Hardiness: Hardy
Pollination: Group 3 (pollinates with Groups 2, 3 and 4)
Uses: Eating apple; also for juice and cooking

Learn more about fruit tree rootstocks

During the bareroot season, our apples are pre pruned before being dispatched by mail order.

"}

Tayberries are very vigorous, consistent growers and reliable, heavy croppers. The fruit is large, deep red and glossy, with deep red flesh and a very good, sweet flavour. Vigorous tree, upright at first, spreading later; heavy, reliable cropper. Can be trained against a warm wall, to make protecting the fruit from birds easier. Prune as little as possible, and only in summer. Self-fertile, and a good pollinator; may crop better if a different variety of cherry is grown nearby. Thin fruit if the crop is heavy, or the fruits may be small and the flavour less rich. Fruit sometimes splits in wet weather. The fruit is small to medium sized, round, slightly flattened, and shiny red, with juicy, pale cream-coloured flesh, sweet-sharp with a hint of strawberry. Apple Discovery makes a compact, trouble-free tree, suitable for the smaller garden. Spur-bearer, and very hardy. Excellent disease-resistance, particularly to scab, so a good choice for areas where this is a problem. Like all early apples, the fruit does not keep, but any excess can be juiced.

Site: Some shelter
Soil: Any reasonably well drained
Position: Crops best in full sun
Pick: August to mid-September
Keep: Does not keep for more than a week
Hardiness: Hardy
Pollination: Pollination Group 3 (pollinates with Groups 2, 3 and 4)
Uses: Eating apple; juicing

Learn more about fruit tree rootstocks

During the bareroot season, our apples are pre pruned before being dispatched by mail order.

["Apple Trees","Pollination Group 3
"option1":"Bareroot","option2":"M27","option3":"1yr
Apple Discovery - The fruit is very large for a damson, blue-black with a light blue bloom; the flesh is greenish-yellow, juicy and firm, with a clinging stone and good damson flavour. Good for cooking and jam, and freezes well for winter use. The tree is large, vigorous and spreading, more like a plum than a damson, reliable, and a heavy cropper.
